Brown was awarded both the Edward Medal and the Carnegie Fund Medal by George V in 1921 for preventing a huge explosion. He was working as a foreman at Woolwich in 1919, when he single-handedly dragged a case of exploding rockets, preventing a potential catastrophe.
Above, he is pictured with his life Mrs Eliza Adelaide Knight who was an active member in the suffragette movement.
